Philanthropy is all about strategic giving, that leaves a
lasting impact upon the community and causes we
care about.
It was just that thoughtful planning that led Bud Davis to
donate $2,500 for the founding gift that opened the
Flagler Community Fund in June 2008. Bud wanted to
honor his wife Phyllis Davis in a way that would last and
he really believed that the nonprofit agencies serving
Flagler County needed a long term approach to
funding. Bud was very active in the community,
working for many agencies and giving of his time and
money. He was thrilled to know that his gift started a
fund that is endowed and will be giving back to our
community forever.
The Flagler Community Fund is an area of interest fund
that is held by the community foundation and anyone
can contribute to help build the fund.
After Bud’s gift another new comer to the community
Diana Mead gave $5,000 to the fund. Diana is not
new to philanthropy, she and her siblings run the Mead
Family Foundation, based in Maryland and are skilled
at taking a strategic approach to giving back to the
communities in which they live. Diana and her sister
Betsy both have homes in Hammock Beach in Palm
Coast and plan to continue to get to know the
community and make thoughtful gifts for their passion
which is empowering youth and strengthening families.
We will be spreading the word during the coming year
about the Flagler Community Fund in hopes that more
people will see the benefit of contributing to a fund
with its whole focus on strengthening the nonprofits in
Flagler County.
